My sister moved to California five years ago and I haven’t seen her since. We talk on the phone all the time, but travel is hard for both of us because of work and cost.  But she had a baby this year and begged me to come out to see her.

But this year, of all years, airfares are out of control now due to gas prices. That plane ticket to Sacramento, round trip with two stops in between, would cost $550.  I had to file bankruptcy last year because of problems with my ex-husband, so I have bad credit and no credit cards.   I don’t have any spare money.

I looked for other ideas, even considered driving my Corolla out there (bad idea). But then I thought about an auto title loans store I pass almost every day on Ringgold Road in East Ridge. I wouldn’t go there – I don’t want to stand in line to talk to someone through a thick glass window.  But I did a web search for “auto cash title loans” and “fast cash” and I found Car Title Loans in Chattanooga. They said my Corolla was good enough for that $850 – and I could get it in 24 hours. That was the part that mattered most: One day later, those fares all went up $110.  Because I acted fast, I saved that much money. 

I filled out the online application while eating lunch. The cash was in my checking account the next morning and I bought the ticket.

I missed my sister.  I wish I had done this earlier.
